from/my/collection: Girard-Perregaux Richeville 2520

As promised, more on rectangular Richeville’s from the 90s. We add just ten to the reference number and we get the Richeville 2520. Still a rectangular automatic watch like the 2510, but with a completely different character. The case is significantly smaller and now has a stepped case design and is less curved. In my view, the 2520 is a more unique GP design than maybe the 2510 was or if you look further on my Blog also the 2532, a tank design that takes elements from another famous Tank watch.

The Richeville 2520 has been one of my earliest GPs I collected, I always liked and hunted from the beginning the black dial with lumed numerals.

I never really looked further but recently I have been more obsessed with gold watches and I did remember that the Richeville 2520 had some very nice gold versions too. I know of all three metals, yellow, pink and white gold with different dials. The Pink Gold is my favourite and when one came for sale, I had to get it.

The strong character of the case with the stepped bezel comes even more prominent in shiny pink gold. However, what in my view makes them stand out is the superb dial design and the quality of the execution. Nicely shaped arrow style pink gold indexes pointing to a railroad track with an inner Guilloche pattern which is mirrored to the edge of the dial. A rectangular shaped small seconds at 6 keeps the same proportions. There is just a lot of harmony in the lines and shape dimensions of this watch.

the quality and the design of the dial is outstanding

While the Richeville 2520 is by today’s standards a relatively small watch, it wears perfectly sized even on larger wrists. Inside you have the very first version of the in-house designed and manufactured caliber from GP when they started all over again in the 90s, the Caliber GP 3000, a no-date automatic caliber. On the wrist it shows its worth with the gold but is still very elegant and subtle, a true neo-vintage gem from Girard-Perregaux.
