wristshot: Girard-Perregaux Laureato 4266

2025 marks the 50th anniversary of the launch of the Laureato. Designed with the spirit of the 70s as integrated bracelet sports chic watch, the design has aged remarkably well. Yes, Audemars Piguet was first with the Royal Oak, still the Laureato was one of the early followers. It is true that the Laureato features an octagonal bezel design, but when you put the 70s models next to each other, you cannot hold up the claim that the Laureato is a just copy of the Royal Oak.

Girard-Perregaux equipped the original Laureato with an ultra-thin Quartz movement. Today we obviously regret that, especially as repairing them today is next to impossible, but let’s not forget that GP was a pioneer of Swiss Quartz development and nobody in the mid 70s could foresee the future that 25 years later, mechanical watches would take an astounding revival. In 2025, Girard-Perregaux paid tribute to the first Laureato with it’s Laureato Fifty edition. On my wrist is the Ref 4266 AC with white Clous-de-Paris dial in steel case and bracelet. The picture was taken back this summer, oh how I wish summer will come soon again.
