Let’s take a look at something rare, even rarer when it comes as a pair. Reference 9628 Ellipse is a typical 70s design picking up on the iconic Ellipse from Patek Phillipe. It was available in Steel and Gold-plated with different dial versions. Ref. 9627 is less common and likely the horizontal ellipse shape is and was less popular.
What we have here, is a special dial version of the Ellipse in dark glossy black with an inner ellipse-shaped silver circle. Okay, an ellipse, not a circle, but you know what I mean. I’m aware of one other version in a round case, which I’m still hunting.

As you can see, that black glossy dial attracts dust easily when taking photos, so I apologise. These little GPs are a great collectors item, not expensive at all but kind of special and very cool. They have a manual wind movement with a no worry set-up, easily serviced if needed.
Ref. 9628
The vertical case, Ref, 9628 has a 16mm lug size while the horizontal ellipse widens up the lug size to 19mm. That one definitely needs a tapered strap to 14mm.
