Back to “vintage” vintage, like 1950s and we continue to look at some Jaeger-LeCoultre from my collection. Today we have a classic Triple Date with teardrop lugs. There is a reason that Jaeger-LeCoultre is also known as the watchmaker’s watchmaker and especially with the Triple Date you may have seen very similar watches for example from Vacheron Constantin. In that period, you could look at almost all Swiss top horological manufactures and find Jaeger-LeCoultre movements in their collection.
Let’s take a closer look at this triple date. The case is made in Rose Gold, not pink gold, only a very subtle rose gold hue. Around 36mm diameter but with those gorgeous teardrop lugs which make the watch look bigger on the wrist. The case has seen surely some polishing, but I still considered this a very good buy as the condition of the dial is very very good, something that is very difficult to find for this model.
The sub seconds at 6 is very prominent and a key design feature together with the outer date track with red numbers and its red arrow pointing hand. Month and day of the week are displayed as per the classic Triple Date layout in two aperture windows. Mine has French text which I’m always struggle with, especially the weekdays. Two setting pushers set the date and the month. The weekday needs to be set by moving the hands. Important note, never use the pusher to set the date passed month end, always turn the time hands via crown to make that switch.
I cannot think of another design that gives more of a vintage feel on the wrist, it’s the combination of the lugs and the complication and the dial design. It is really a lovely watch that gets a lot of compliments.
