News? What’s new? Yes, it may seem like just another colour iteration, especially when we compare them back to the 2022 Laureato 38 with copper dial. I’m a little more enthusiastic about the new releases. First of all, good to see they are coming in the smaller 38mm size. I would have hoped for a 40mm or maybe 39mm version in a slightly thinner case, but I guess that is economically not feasible.
So we get the same old 38mm case as we previously had. The copper dial was nice but a bit too special for my taste, not so versatile. Of course there are still older version in white, blue, black and grey dials, but the small 38mm are quite rare. And there is one thing I really like and want: that is the 18k gold rotor, which was introduced only with the Copper Dial Laureato 38. I just believe this adds so much more style to the movement, it should be mandatory for a watch in that price range.
finally the rotor is standard in 18k pink gold
Now, let’s have a look at the 2 new versions, or should I say, let’s look at the 2 new colours. There is the blue, excuse me, midnight blue. It appears to be a bit darker and richer blue than the known blue Laureato. From what I can see in the photos, I like it very much. Unlike on the Copper or the Sage Green dial, GP left the logo and seconds hand in steel. It would have not been a good match in gold with the blue dial, so I endorse that 100%.
midnight blue seems a little darker and richer blue
The sage green dial does have the golden logo and seconds hand and it kind of adds something special, yet, I would need to see it in real to make a final judgement. The dial colour is not really green in my view. It’s a pale olive tone that can turn grey with a subtle green hue. I’m not sure yet how versatile it will be, but surely more than the copper dial. Again, I would like to see one in real and in natural light. However, I can see this one will be very convincing, standing out from the blue/white/grey crowd without being too punchy green.
sage green, quite pale, more like a greenish grey
In summary, yes, these are new releases but an iteration of the known. However, I think GP hit the right spot with the smaller size and the colours chosen. I hope they will be a good success in the market as they should be when compared with other steel integrated sports watches.
