Well, when the new caliber GP 4800 was introduced it was only a matter of a short time before the actual novelty is going to get out. In some published photos of the new caliber, the trained eye could already see case bits and pieces of the Laureato and indeed, 2025 marks the 50th anniversary since the birth of the original Laureato. Here we go with the Laureato Fifty to celebrate the anniversary with a 200 piece limited edition. Why 200? No idea, I guess that is a meaningful number that keeps some exclusivity but is also obtainable.
I will spare you with any kind of specs and details as you can read this all in various announcements and reports, but rather give you my personal view. I don’t have any live pictures yet myself, but I was able to see and feel it in the summer. I think GP did this really right, okay, let’s say “almost” right.
- 39mm case: really the sweet spot for me
- Brand-new Caliber GP4800, I really like it
- 150m WR
- Grey Dial, more colours will come for sure, but grey is cool
- New bracelet, very smooth and thinner
- New Clasp design with micro-adjustment, a must have
- Less text on the dial
- Mix of brushed and polished steel
Wait a minute. Mix of steel? Here comes the “almost” and my amateur try to turn the Laureato Fifty into a monochromatic look. I’m happy for everyone who likes two-tone, bi-colour whatever and in fact, it does look quite good. I’m sure it will sell out, but damn, I personally cannot live with gold/steel mix. I think it will not be a problem in the end as after the Laureato Fifty Ltd. Edition, for sure we will see an all steel model with the exact same features, multiple dial colour options, but on the other hand, owning the Fifty anniversary would have been damn nice as well.
