watches/not/gp: Omega Seamaster from 1963

I will start right with the shocking part that Omega is not exactly my area of interest nor do I have much knowledge about the brand and its watches. I always considered Omega the Volkswagen of watches, very solid quality, everyone has one, but maybe just a bit too perfect. i.e boring.

On the other hand, there are some significant horological milestones attached with Omega you cannot ignore. The late 50s Speedmasters, Seamasters and Railmasters for example. I own a 1960s Railmaster 2914 myself. But for some mysterious reason, this Seamaster 166.010 always has been on my mind. It has just so much character while actually looking quite plain. I think the strong lugs in a perfect 35mm case size and that beautifully crafted dial. It just seems right.

So being on my radar and also being a widely used model, did not mean it was an easy catch. This is not a watch you want to start as a “project” for that it is just too common and not valuable enough. Hence you need to find that perfect example and here it becomes more difficult. I’m happy to report I found the one that ticked all boxes and I’m very happy to add this Omega to the collection.
